Yacht running along the Gozo coastline
Gozo · Private Charter

Gozo yacht charter, planned for the slow island.

Dwejra, Mġarr ix-Xini, Xlendi, Ramla Bay and the quiet anchorages most ferries skip — a private crewed yacht turns Gozo into a single-day route.

Why Gozo by yacht

A different pace, ten miles north

Gozo by ferry is fine. Gozo by private yacht is a completely different trip. The ferry only lands you at Mġarr; a yacht runs the full coastline. You see Dwejra from the water, anchor under the cliffs of Mġarr ix-Xini, lunch in Xlendi, and end the day at Ramla Bay over red sand. The whole island opens up.

Crossings from Malta

Sliema is the standard departure. The captain runs north past St Paul's Bay, through the Comino channel, and along the eastern Gozo coast. Most groups stop at the Blue Lagoon for an hour on the way, then push on to Gozo by midday.

Dwejra and the Inland Sea

The west coast headline. The Azure Window collapsed in 2017 but the Inland Sea is still the most photographed cliff anchorage on Gozo. Snorkel the underwater tunnel between the open sea and the inland pool with the captain's tender on standby.

Mġarr ix-Xini — the cove with cliffs

A narrow cove on the south coast hemmed by tall limestone walls. Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie filmed here, but the cove is quiet outside the few weeks each year that fact gets quoted. There is one small fish restaurant ashore. The yacht anchors and the tender brings the group in.

Xlendi for cliffside lunch

The lunch stop most groups pick. The bay is small, the restaurants line the seawall, and the captain holds the yacht at anchor while the group goes ashore. Two hours is the right length. The waiters know the boat will be back at the same time tomorrow.

Ramla Bay over red sand

The headline beach on the north coast. Red sand, shallow swim line, and a long stretch of clear water. We anchor offshore and tender to the beach for the late afternoon swim. Ramla is the right way to end a Gozo day before the run home.

Marsalforn for evenings

For overnight charters, Marsalforn on the north coast is the easiest evening stop. Restaurants open onto the seawall, the harbour-master accepts visitors, and the yacht is moored close enough that a tender run takes three minutes.

Best yachts for the Gozo loop

The Sunseeker 86 Jupju, the Manhattan 66 and the Manhattan 73 are the three most-picked yachts for a Gozo day. They have the engines for the crossing, the deck space for a long day, and the cabins for the overnight version. Browse the full Malta fleet for alternatives.

Multi-day Gozo extension

Two or three days lets you cover Gozo at Maltese pace. Day one Comino plus Mġarr ix-Xini, day two Dwejra plus Xlendi lunch, day three Ramla and the run home. Send the dates and group size on WhatsApp and we plan the route.

Common questions

Gozo, planned

How long does Malta to Gozo take by yacht?
About fifty to seventy minutes from Sliema on a fast motor yacht in calm conditions. The crossing runs north past Comino, through the channel, and down the eastern Gozo coast. Slightly longer in light easterly weather. The captain can route via Comino for a swim stop on the way.
Can we dock at Mġarr Gozo?
Yes, Mġarr is the main harbour on Gozo and accepts private yachts on a same-day basis. We arrange the slot the morning of the charter. Many groups use Mġarr only as a tender drop, leaving the yacht at anchor and going ashore for lunch in Xlendi or Marsalforn.
Best month for a Gozo yacht charter?
Late May, June, and September. The water is warm, the wind is light, and the day-boat traffic is half what it is in August. July and August are busier and slightly hotter on deck. October still works for swim days when the air is cool.
Can we combine Gozo and Comino in one day?
Yes, this is the most-asked Malta day. Leave Sliema at eight, anchor at the Blue Lagoon for two hours, run on to the Gozo coast for lunch in Xlendi or a swim at Dwejra, then back via Comino at sunset. Ten to eleven hours on the water in total.
Is overnight at Gozo possible?
Yes. The yacht can either tie up at Mġarr for the night or anchor in Mġarr ix-Xini, the sheltered cove on the south coast. Overnight charters work best on the 60+ foot yachts that have proper cabins. Day boats can do the route but not the sleep-aboard.
